What Uses The Most Electricity?

by Meg on September 23, 2006

I came across an article by Barbara Whiting, on how to save money on electricity, it was very interesting and would like to share the jest of the information with you.

I took a look around my house and made a mental note of the products I felt was using the most electricity. I felt the computer, TV, lights, and furnace for starters.

But no the major user of electricity on a daily basis is your refrigerator. Now over the years, they have become more efficient in the use of electricity then in the past, but they can still make up 80 percent of the daily usage of electricity of some households. There are a couple of things you can do to cut down some of the usage to help you save some money.

Refrigerator Tips:

Make sure the refrigerator is not up against an outside facing wall.

Keep the fridge as full as possible.

Clean out beneath and behind the fridge every month or so. I’m bad about doing that chore.

If your fridge is an older model, getting a more energy efficient one would be to your advantage.

And if you do get a new one, they tell you do not stick the old one in the garage. If you have an old one in the garage get rid of it unless you really need it. Usually all those extra refrigerators do is use up electricity cooling air.
